The Better Part

We’ll hear a scattering of leaves
in the end, leaves falling all around,
rustling down these quiet streets,
covering thick this holy ground;
then we’ll find an oaten flute
and spin, while resting, a warbling lay,
at last melodious guile with skill
conning the demon of midday.
